REGION "E" MAD
MAD Public Service Announcment
From the desk of the REGION "E" MAD,
Now is the time to plan for the 2009 MAD program. I have been in contact with all state MSF coordinators in our region, about what they have to offer the GWRRA participants. If each Dist.MAD Coordinator would get in touch with their MSF Coordinator and ask them to send them the material that they have to offer, this along with what GWRRA has to offer, we maybe able to touch the "Motoring Public", with great success.
"May is Motorcycle Awareness month", we should be planning what we will do as a motorcyclist to make the motoring public aware of our presents on the "Roadways". I am working with MSF on having a "Windshield Wash " at rest areas through out Region E, for the month of May. This will help kick-off the Awareness program in Region E. This will only take 2hrs on any week-end in May, we will wash windshields and speak to the motoring public about our Love of motorcycling and to "Share the Road" with us.
Mall & Bike shows are another ways to reach out. A great number of the motoring public shop at malls, try an get permission from a mall in your area to have an informational table with a couple of wings on display. If you can, have a bike show with motorcycles from your chapter, hand out fliers and visit with the motoring public, let them know who you are and to start looking for motorcycles.
If any member belongs to other organizations, ask if you can have a seminar on motorcycle awareness at their organization or if you can hand out information about the Awareness Program their meeting. We will be able to have a member give this seminar, of 30min-1hr.and will make sure that you get the info you need.
Each state has a proclamation to recognize May as "Motorcycle Awareness Month", I would like the dist. MAD Coordinator. to get copies of the proclamation to all chapters to display at meeting places. You as members can contact your local County Board and ask if they would also recognize May as "Motorcycle Awareness month". This is not a difficult task ,our chapter was able to get 3 counties to have a proclamation for May. When we approached these counties, they liked the idea an ask us to be at the board meeting and say something about the awareness program, very easy to do!
Region E is also stepping forward, with the help of Charles & Nancy Mallett, our new International MAD Dir.They were able to get a grant from the MSF to help promote educating the motoring public. This will be done by selling tee-shirts to members and the public. With these shirts we hope to get the attention of the motoring public to "Start Looking For Motorcycles". Info about the Tee-shirts is below, this is for your Safety, help promote motorcycle awareness thru-out Region E.
Remember, we are all motorcycle awareness promoters, we just need to step forward and make the motoring public more aware of Motorcycles.

Nancy and I would like to congratulate Toney & Carol Buzick on their appointment to the Region staff as Motorist Awareness Coordinators. We have known them for a long time and have no doubt they will do a great job for the Region.
We would like to give Dave & Gwen Carter, along with the rest of the Region “E” Staff, much thanks. Thank you all for your support, for making us a part of your team, and most of all for the friendship you bestowed upon us. We plan to remain active with the Region, just as we have remained active with our home Chapter IL-Q.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to the Region “Project Educate”. Region “E” has been awarded a substantial grant by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) through the National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety (NAMS). This is a great opportunity, not for just Region “E”, but for GWRRA as a whole. MSF has told us the Region was awarded this grant because, “It is a very innovative concept.” They also stated, “We will be monitoring this project very closely and we are interested in its outcome.”
The success of “Project Educate” will rely on the word getting out to the members. Communications will be essential to inform them of the project and to solicit their participation. Initially, per the terms of the grant, the project will be geared to motorist awareness. As the project proceeds, it will produce funding for a multitude of divisions within the Region. The project can also be modified in order to produce funding for years to come.
“Project Educate” (Brief Synopsis)
1. Grant funding will be utilized to launch project. Awareness advertising t-shirts will be produced and sold via Internet sites, motorcycle rallies, chapter meetings, etc. (Shirts will serve as advertisement to motorists reminding them of our presence on roadways).
2. Following initial start-up the shirt campaign will be self-supporting and at the same time will generate additional funds towards purchases of educational equipment for conducting professional seminar presentations.
Much work and effort has been put into this project. If successful, this project will open the door to future grants and project possibilities for our association. It is also our opportunity to have an impact with the rest of the motorcycling community, not to mention having a real impact on motorist awareness.
We ask that everyone, at all levels, get involved with this project and help spread the word. This is a chance for us all to really Make-A-Difference! A great opportunity is knocking on our door. It is up to us to open that door and allow it inside!
